A huge thank you to everyone who participated in our traditional spring work bee on Saturday, May 16th! We got a massive amount of work done together, and the new growing season is now officially open.
We would like to extend a special thank you to The Workers' Association for providing the delicious coffee and grilled sausages. It was the perfect fuel for our hard-working community!
During our lunchtime meeting, we discussed important community matters and agreed on the following new guidelines and future upgrades:
Great news regarding our water system! We have agreed with the association's chairperson on a major infrastructure upgrade:
New Central Pipeline: A main water connection will be built in the middle of the allotment area, feeding five different water distribution points. This will make watering much easier for everyone in the near future!
Water Barrel Instructions: While the new system is being planned and built, we will use a specific marking system for the shared water barrels: If you notice a barrel is empty and needs a refill, place a rake or another tool handle upright inside the empty barrel. This will signal the person on refill duty to fill it up.
To keep our beautiful allotment area clean and tidy, we agreed on strict guidelines for waste disposal:
Where to take waste? All larger waste items (such as rotten wood, pressure-treated/impregnated wood, metals, and plastics) must be taken temporarily to the area next to the parking lot.
Final Disposal: Trash from the parking lot area will later be collected onto a trailer and transported to the landfill. Please do not leave any waste on your own plot or along the common pathways.
Our allotment garden is reaching a magnificent milestone: we are turning 50 years old! * To celebrate this anniversary, some of our long-time gardeners have promised to look back at the past decades and compile a history section for our website.
We look forward to sharing these stories and old photos with you soon!
We wish all our gardeners—both old and new—a wonderful and productive 50th anniversary growing season! See you at the plots!
